DESCRIPTION:The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and Janeba Kanneh-Mason\, concert Pianist performs Mozart: \nDate: Wednesday\, April 10 at 1:00PM or 7:30 PM \nPlace: Crescent Fort Rouge United Church\, 525 Wardlaw Ave \nREGISTER NOW \nJaneba is beginning her career as a concert pianist and is one of six siblings who are all talented musicians.  The oldest\, brother Sheku who plays the ‘cello\, became especially famous when performed at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding; he has since gone on to have an exceptional international career.  \n\n\nTheir sister\, Isata is also a pianist\, who has also established herself internationally\, often performing together with Sheku.  Janeba’s mother is originally from Sierra Leone and her father’s parents hail from Antigua\, the father having been born in London.  \n\n\n\n\n\nThe conductor for this concert is African-American Jeri Lynne Johnson who conducted a piece by a Kennedy Centre Honors recipient\, on the televised awards show on CBS. DESCRIPTION:DATE/TIME\n\nFebruary 16\, 2024\n5:00PM to 9:30PM\n\nLOCATION\nFort Richmond Collegiate- 99 Killarney Ave\, Winnipeg\, MB R3T 3B3 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THIS EVENT\nTheme: “Collective Action\, Collective Vision\, Collective Change: Supporting One Another as the Black Winnipeg Collective” \nThe Afro Caribbean Mentorship Program (ACMP) and the University of Manitoba Black Alliance (UMBA) will host its third annual\, one-day (in-person & online) Black History Month (BHM) event. The evening’s festivities will celebrate Afro-Caribbean Black Canadian communities’ by paying homage to our history and celebrating Afro-Caribbean Black (ACB) people’s great accomplishments in our present times. The evening’s social gathering will encourage audience members to dance\, sing and contribute to a thought-provoking panel discussion on the Black experiences in Winnipeg\, empowering our ACB community members\, and supporting local Black Businesses and Initiatives. \nTo ensure we are making our Black History Month event a time to remember\, we will focus on working in solidarity with Black businesses to remind our Winnipeg community to support Black-owned businesses and appreciate the hard work of ACB entrepreneurs. In doing so\, this event will invite Black-owned to collaborate to establish a pop-up shop pre-event and intermission. This is our way to ensure our attendees recognize amazing Black-owned Winnipeg businesses while encouraging them to support these business establishments.
