Janeba is beginning her career as a concert pianist and is one of six siblings who are all talented musicians. The oldest, brother Sheku who plays the ‘cello, became especially famous when performed at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding; he has since gone on to have an exceptional international career.
Their sister, Isata is also a pianist, who has also established herself internationally, often performing together with Sheku. Janeba’s mother is originally from Sierra Leone and her father’s parents hail from Antigua, the father having been born in London.
The conductor for this concert is African-American Jeri Lynne Johnson who conducted a piece by a Kennedy Centre Honors recipient, on the televised awards show on CBS. This concert also features a work called “Source Code” by African-American composer Jesse Montgomery who just won the Grammy for best classical composition.
This certainly is a concert celebrating Black female empowerment and achievement!
